When registering for LUTCF or FSS courses, you have the option to complete your course in the traditional classroom environment or the option to complete your course online, through The College's Online Training Center (OTC). (With the exception of FA 290, which is a self-study course.) LUTCF and FSS courses run for 8 weeks and conclude with the final exam.
Classroom Exams
If you are taking your course in the classroom, your class will meet for 8 weeks for 2 and 1/2 hour sessions. The class then meets (typically during the week after classes are completed) to take the final examination. Exams are typically 50 multiple choice questions and are administered by the Moderator (or a substitute exam proctor) during the 9th week of class. Your final exams are then submitted to The College by your course moderator. Final grade reports will be mailed to you in approximately 3 weeks.
Online Training Center Exams (OTC Courses)
If you are taking an OTC course, all assignments are submitted online, and all exams are taken online through The College's Blackboard website. To be eligible to take the final exam, you must pass 7 out of 8 of the weekly classes and register a final exam proctor by the 6th week of class. The directions for registering an exam proctor can be found online in Blackboard, under the "Register Your Proctor" link. Exam proctors can also be registered online through your Student Account, or by contacting a Professional Education counselor. Student and Proctor Final Exam eligibility emails will be sent on the Friday prior to the beginning of the Final Exam Testing Period. There is a one week period between the final class (Class 8) due date and the beginning of your course's 14 day testing period. The specific dates for the testing period will be posted within the "Take the Final Exam" link inside your course.
FA 290, Ethics for the Financial Professional
FA 290, Ethics for the Financial Professional, is a self study course, with your final exam taken through Blackboard. After your registration for FA 290, you will have access to the Blackboard website where you are able to:
Within 2 business days of registering the exam proctor, both you and your proctor receive exam eligibility e-mails signifying the exam has been set up and is accessible through the "Take the Final Exam" link within Blackboard. Once the exam e-mails have been received, meet with the proctor at any location with Internet access and take the exam.
You have 6 months from the date of your course registration to take your final exam. If you do not complete your final exam during this 6-month time frame, you have an additional 3 months in which to reschedule the exam date for a fee of $65. Students who do not pass the final exam on their first attempt may schedule an exam retake for a fee of $65.
Students may retake the FA 290 exam one time. If a student does not pass the exam retake or does not take the exam within 9 months of registering for the course, an additional full-fee registration is required.
Self-Study Courses Conclude at a Pearson VUE Testing Center
When you register for a Huebner School or Graduate School course, you are required to select an exam quarter. The exam quarter you select is your 3-month window in which your final exam is to be completed. You must schedule and take your exam at any time during your 3-month window. Select an exam period that ensures you have adequate time to study for the test. Please contact Professional Education at 888-263-7265 if you are unable to test during your chosen testing quarter, as there are additional fees for rescheduling.
After your course registration is completed, The College will e-mail you an EOD® (Examination on Demand®) ticket. This ticket will be used when you schedule your final exam appointment. If the current quarter is selected for testing, you should schedule your exam appointment as soon as possible after you receive your EOD® ticket to ensure a seat for your examination and to give yourself enough time to study. If you select a future quarter for testing, you must wait at least 1 week before the start of the exam period before scheduling your examination.
To schedule your exam appointments and find exam center locations, please contact Pearson VUE at 1-866-EXAMTAC (392-6822) (toll-free) or visit their website at www.VUE.com/tac. Exams are not scheduled through The College, all scheduling must be done through Pearson VUE. Check your EOD® ticket for accuracy and if there are any errors, please contact Professional Education immediately, before making your appointment. Have your EOD® ticket ready when making your exam appointment as you will be asked to provide the following information:
Important Notice: Please note there are two types of VUE testing centers, Pearson Professional Testing Centers (PPC's) and VUE Authorized Testing Centers. The PPC's are owned and operated by Pearson VUE and offer the highest level of exam delivery. There are over 200 PPC's in the testing center network. The VUE Authorized centers include more than 3000 centers that are independently owned and operated in over 130 countries. When scheduling your appointment, ask if there is a PPC in your area.
Cancelling and Rescheduling Your Exam Appointment
Contact Pearson VUE at 1-866-392-6822 (or visit its Web site) to cancel or reschedule your exam. Do not leave a voice mail message when making, changing, or canceling appointments. Do not call The College to cancel an appointment. Only Pearson VUE can cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Once you have cancelled your appointment, you can reschedule in the same quarter with any center and without charge, provided you cancel by 7pm central time the business day before the appointment. If you want to reschedule, you must do so before the expiration date on your exam ticket.
If you are unable to test before the end of your selected testing quarter, there is a $165 fee to reschedule to a later quarter.
Exam Day Arrival, Use of Calculators, and Grades
Be sure to arrive at the testing center at least 15 minutes before your appointment. Bring two forms of valid personal identification bearing your signature. At least one form of identification must be a current document (for example, driver's license, passport, etc.) with a photo and/or physical description. The examination is "mouse" and/or "keyboard" driven. If you need instructions on how to use the computer, you are entitled to receive a tutorial before your exam begins.
You may bring one nonprinting, non-alphanumeric, battery-powered, hand-held calculator with an internal rate of return function to the College's examinations. For HS 300 and HS 328, a calculator is required to answer some exam questions. For HS 321, HS 323, HS 326, HS 330, HS 331, and GS 811, we strongly recommend that you bring a calculator to the exams, although it is not required to answer the questions. We also recommend that you become proficient in using a financial calculator if you intend to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination, for which calculator use is required. Selected assignments in HS 300 and in review materials for this exam include practice exercises for using financial calculators; contact the Office of Professional Education for more information. For other HS and GS course examinations, a calculator is neither required nor recommended.
The College's study materials for HS 300 and HS 328 support the HP-10BII calculator. We strongly recommend that you use a calculator supported by the course; however, you may use any financial calculator that meets the above specifications.
The exam is graded as "pass" or "fail" as soon as you complete it. However, all exams for HS courses (with exception of the CLF® course exams) are also assigned letter grades. You will receive the pass/fail message as well as a printed performance analysis, which indicates assignments to review if you need to retake the exam. In several days, you will receive your official grade report, which will list a grade of A, B, or C if you passed the exam.
